Today is the day….

We have been walking our journey together for a few months now. With the on-set of Spring and all of the newness that it brings, I thought that I would try something new.  How about you write the blog this time around.  I will even get you started.

“In the spirit of the vernal equinox, today is the day….”

Now you tell us…What is today the day for?

A Real Hard P.U.S.H.

Hello J Spot!

My question today is….

What are you P.U.S.H.’ing through?

When I went off to college and even after that, every time I called my mother to share something going on in my life that I perceived as hard or ultimately insurmountable, she always told me the same thing, “Jenine, P.U.S.H.  Pray Until Something Happens.”  And time she said it, I would.  Early on, as I would try to heed my mother’s advice, the stress was all over my face; the pressure I was under was evident in my voice and I reeked of the stress I was under.  Then, somewhere along the way, I realized that while I was acting like I was P.U.S.H.’ing, if everyone could tell that I felt like my world was upside down, then I really wasn’t.

So I changed.  Just like that I decided that it wasn’t OK for others to know how the stresses of life were getting me down.  I started to behave how I thought one might when they were P.U.S.H.’ing.  I put energy into my actions.  Even when I was exhausted, I behaved as though it was all good.  Then suddenly, I started to talk to people who were doing the same thing.  They were walking and talking like it was all good until it really was just that….all good!

We are a community of like-minded individuals, who may not all be headed to the same destination, but we are all on a journey.  So I ask again….

What are you P.U.S.H.’ing through?

Take the Risk

This week I want to talk about taking the risk. I thought it would be a nice follow-up to last weeks post about true courage.

I was reading an article by Best Selling Author and Forbes Columnist, Margie Warrell. And she had some pretty interesting things to say about risk taking. Let me paraphrase her four major points. First, we focus on the probability of failure. I am sure that we all can relate to that whether it’s in our relationships, our careers or just in life in general. I think we almost always go to what’s wrong with our ideas instead of what’s right. The second point she touched on was exaggerating the consequences of what might happen if something does go wrong. I do this one very well! I can’t tell you the number of times that I have allowed this little hidden talent of mine to prevent me from doing or saying something that the world really needed. The third point spoke about our ability to handle the consequences of taking a risk. In this point, she emphasizes that “…women are the biggest culprits when it comes to underestimating their abilities and buying into self-doubt.” I wonder how true that statement would be if I added “women from diverse backgrounds….” The final point that Ms. Warrell made was how we discount the cost of inaction and perpetuate the status quo. I imagine there are quite a few areas in life that I am sure we are all saying this in.

So with all of this in mind, I ask the same questions that Ms. Warrell asks:

  1. What are the areas in your life where you could be courageous?
  2. How will continuing to stick with the status quo in that area cost you one year from now?
  3. Where in life, are you under-estimating yourself and holding back from taking a risk?

True Courage

Sigh….so it’s been a really long time since my first post to the J Spot.  I wouldn’t be worth my salt as a coach if I didn’t dig deeper to find out what that was all about.  While I haven’t posted since June, that’s not to say that I haven’t logged in or even written things to be posted.  Nonetheless, I just couldn’t move myself to action.  If I were coaching a client, I’d probably ask the question “What’s that all about?”  I know because I’ve been asking myself the same thing for the last 2 months.   At first I wasn’t writing because I couldn’t get the formatting correct.  Then I wasn’t writing because I couldn’t find anyone that I was comfortable with to proofread for me.  Then I felt like I shouldn’t be writing because I had no idea how to blog.  Then finally, just as recently as last week, I couldn’t write because I didn’t have pictures to use when I wrote a post.  The truth of the matter would be that while those may be very real obstacles to overcome, none of that was the real reason that kept me from writing.  The real answer would be that I am scared to death of it!  Scared that no one will want to hear what I have to say.  Scared to open myself up and be vulnerable to those that I know and those that I don’t.  Dare I say it….I am scared that it might be a success!  Isn’t it funny how we can dream about being successful but when the opportunity to get where we want to be presents itself we sometimes secretly sabotage ourselves?  Well for me, that all stops right here.  I may be scared, but I’m going to do it anyway.  So, I’m asking (don’t leave me hanging)….

What is fear secretly sabotaging in your life?

I need your thoughts, ideas and love to make this grow.  So, show your courage, leave a comment below where it says “Leave Your Contribution to the Community…” and let us support you on the journey to finding your passion.
